Working Through Our First Depop Sale

My Meyers-Briggs personality type is INFJ which has the attribute of an insatiable desire for knowledge. This particular trait leads me down rabbitholes daily, especially on the topic of reselling. Based on what I have read in these groups (who seem to be mostly  Poshmark sellers) a sale on Depop is like seeing a unicorn. Well friends, I saw my first unicorn. It came in the form of a designer blouse.

The item sold for $70. I had listed shipping at $10. The customer was charged $80.30. Depop fees were $11.70 and actual shipping cost was $13.62. This left me with a profit of $54.98. Which I am thrilled with.

This was an interesting learning experience because not only was it my first Depop sale, it was a U.S. customer. I liked that I could arrange my own shipping. I used the Canada post small business app to take advantage of cheaper rates aswell as a local drop off point. If you have not signed up for a small business account, you should, it is free and offers a wealth of knowledge base articles that will help you set your business up for success right from the start. The only issue that I had was that the label was sized for a letter size paper rather than my 4x6 label printer. There may be an option to fix this but I did not see it.

My focus so far is on my poshmark, marketplace and ebay businesses but crosslisting on Depop made for a nice bump in sales.

I think the moral of the story for today is to try to maximize exposure to your listings while being aware of the costs of time and energy and possible listing fees. You will need to experiment to find which markets are most worthy of your time.

Good luck with your sales this week. Next week I will go through the process of setting up Canada Posts Snap Ship for small business.
